META: It is up to you to select the right email serivce for you as there are endless free email services out there all offering slightly different services.

With competition tough out there and a plethora of free email servies available, providers are trying to include better features all the time in order to give the user a better service. You will be surprised at the amount that you can get for free from a prompt interface, mail filter facilities and many other useful features at no added cost. You may even be tempted to have more than one free email account that you could assign to various categories of mails that you receive.

Some of the top ten email service providers include –

Gmail from Google, which offers almost unlimited storage and an efficient interface that allows you to check your mails effortlessly. Gmail can be accessed from any kind of email programme as long as you have POP and IMAP sofware. Emails do have advertisements that can be seen on one side. These however, do not cause a hindrance when sending or reading your emails.

Yahoo Mail also offers unlimited storage besides which it provides RSS news feeds and instant messaging. Yahoo also has another service known as the Yahoo Mail Classic, which offers a fairly good Spam protection feature while a rich HTML editor is also available for writing emails.

Free services with limitless storage is offered by AIM mail from AOL which also has a fantastic interface and excellent spam protection. Features such as smart folders and labels are sadly not offered but it does offer standard POP and IMAP access.

FastMail offers an astral web interface, IMAP access plus other useful features but unfortunately it provides only limited storage of only 2GB and not a very good Spam filter with the free to use emails accounts.

GMX Mail is another consistent free email service that offers a rich interface along with POP and IMAP access, a good Spam filter, protection against viruses and a 5GB of storage. What is lacking here, is some proper organisation of mails.

Inbox.com provides its clients 5GB of online storage and an efficient web mail access along with POP for your email programme. IMAP accessibility however, is not supported and some improvement is needed in relation to the organising of mails.

A user-friendly interface, total security and 5GB of storage is offered free with Windows Live Hotmail email services. POP and IMAP access however, are not permitted, and organising of mails will not go any further than folder level. The available Spam filter could also use some improvement.

Zenbe Personal offers various features like organising your mail with labels and search, uses several short cuts and has a good Spam filter but IMAP access is available only for the inbox.

Zapak Mail, is not the most efficient mail service around, despite offering unlimited storage, POP access, free email service and a few background images.

Gawab.10GB of online storage along with POP and IMAP access are offered by com. This is a fast and reliable free email service. However it does not offer labels and a complete mail search facility.

You could choose to have one or more free email accounts as suits your requirement. They will also provide you with a free email address.

I love GMX! I use it in Outlook Express - it works flawlessly and no tagging of my emails whatsover. I don’t know what this is about, a limit on email sent per hour - I’ve been using GMX as my sole email provider for several years and have never once encountered any limit in the number of emails sent in an hour.

I like the sound of GMX and it makes my email address memorable and brief. I love how I can have up to 10 alias email addresses with my account. Comes in very handy in dealing with any site that’s a spam risk.

Thank you for giving GMX a thumbs up - I concur and like to praise GMX whenever I can as an expression of my gratitude for years of excellent service.
