Using Cross Promotion to Boost Your eBay Sales

Maximizing your ability to make money on eBay requires cross promotion. This entails promoting other items you have for sale in each of your auction listings. This works best if the items are related. For example, if you’re selling shoes it would be a good idea to cross promote shoelaces, shoehorns, socks, and so forth.

Those are the most obvious reasons for cross promoting. But they aren’t the only ones.

If a visitor to your auction listing arrived there by mistake, then you ought to consider it an opportunity to show them what else you have to offer.

Effective Cross Promotion

Cross promotion is used by all successful sellers. Remember the last time you bought tires for your car? The salesman, if he or she was doing their job right, probably tried to sell you road hazard protection, new valve stems, wheels, extended warranties, or other additional services.

You should be doing the same thing, which is why you cross-promote.

By default, eBay helps you cross promote items by automatically displaying other items you’re selling at the bottom of your listing. You can turn this feature off if you want via your “My eBay” preferences. As a general rule, however, you’re better off leaving it as is.

Placing In-Description Links

You should always be thinking of ways to promote other items you are selling within each of your auction listings. It’s a good idea to place a link to your “Items for Sale” page or eBay Store within each of your auction listings.

If you’re not sure where to find a listing of all your auctions, simply visit an active auction listing and click the “See other items” link that appears at the top right.

Having a link at the top to your other auctions or eBay Store lets buyers know right away that you have more to offer. This is important both for buyers that accidentally clicked into your auction (chances are that if they’re not looking for what’s in your specific auction, they’re probably looking for something similar) as well as buyers that are looking specifically for what you have.
