The holiday traffic blues

The holidays are great because we get to spend time with our family and friends enjoying our time away from work. For webmasters, the holiday period is a nightmare because often it is associated with a sharp drop in website traffic and, of course, revenues.
Lower traffic during the holiday period mostly affects blogs and forums. It is a goldmine for those in affiliate marketing since the holidays are all about spending money to buy gifts. It is also has a smaller effect for the larger sites, i.e., those receiving several thousand visitors per day. Weblogs such as TechCrunch will hardly feel any pain during the holidays. Smaller sites however, especially those who receive anywhere from 100 to 1000 visitors daily, will probably make little to no revenue these days. My networks of sites shows a decrease in traffic of nearly 50% on average. I don’t mind it as much because I know it will all come back on January 2nd after the holiday period is over and people go back to work; and most importantly, when kids go back to school and they are not spending every waking hour playing with their new toys.
That said, I want to wish everyone Happy Holidays and may 2008 be your most profitable year yet!
