Yahoo! acquires Zimbra

Earlier today, Yahoo! announced the acquisition of client/server open source software development company Zimbra for $350 million in cache. Zimbra offers a number of cross-platform products including an email application, calendar, and online document authoring. It appears that Yahoo! is after the online office application market that is currently vigorously pursued by Google. The two online search and portal competitors are hoping to take a bite out of Microsoft’s Office software suite that has been extremely profitable over the years.

TechCrunch has more about the acquisition.
