A must read guide to effective linkbaiting

Andy Hagan recently took a break from living the dream and posted on his Tropical SEO blog what he calls the ultimate guide to linkbaiting and social media marketing. Andy is often considered the man when it comes to linkbaiting.

In his article, he explains how to write content that will make it to the front page of Digg and other similar social media such as Reddit, StumbleUpon, Netscape and Delicious. Andy writes about everything that makes content linkable including the title, theme, formatting and packaging.

One of the most valuable pieces of information in the article is the suggestion that advertising be removed from around the content used for linkbaiting. The power of linkbaiting is in generating hundreds of backlinks to your site in order to improve its rankings on search engines which will send additional and well-targeted traffic. The momentary surge in traffic that can be experienced by making the front page of Digg will at most generate a few dollars in AdSense earnings; people are more reluctant to link to content that is drowned in advertising. Andy suggests that you can add the advertising a few days later and after the linkbaiting effect has taken place.
