What were the techies up to on Christmas day?

Tech people need to seriously take some days off and enjoy life away from their computers. Why am I saying this? I say it because I just did a cursory review of the blogosphere for December 25th and I realized that most blogs were updated and commented on in the usual frequency.
For example, Michael Arrington posted 3 new stories on TechCrunch and Om Malik posted twice on GigaOM. Slashdot received a total of 15 new articles on the front page and Engadget had more than 10 new stories posted. In the meantime, Diggers were busy making fun of a student at Purdue University who chose to spend the day in the computer lab broadcasting his activities on a live web camera feed. I don’t know what is saddest, the guy who goes to the computer lab on this particular day or the people who took the time to read Digg and comment on his choice? All other popular social news sites were also very busy on Monday.
Now, I understand that not everybody celebrates Christmas day and that is perfectly fine as far as I am concerned. However, this was a day off for all people regardless of their religious beliefs. There is no reason why someone can’t just walk away from his/her computer for one day. There are so many other things you can do other than squander one more day in front of a computer. For example, you can go for a walk; talk to family, friends or a perfect stranger; help at the local homeless shelter; go for a beer at the local bar; ride your bicycle around town if the weather permits it of course; start reading a new book; take a bath and so on.
Whatever you chose to do, it should be anything other than sitting in front of your computer. It is not often that you get a Monday away from work so why not do something different? You will be surprised how different your outlook of life will be if you can experience the world outside of your regular routine. I enjoyed the entire day and did not turn on my computer until late at night. I don’t regret it one bit.
If you wasted this chance, then you are fortunate because you get a second chance next Monday. What you do on that day is your choice but maybe you should do something other than work. Trust me when I tell you that you will not regret it!
Cheers!
