Google hated only 1/4 as much as Microsoft

Google has been under a lot of fire recently. There are rumors that it is paying money to terrorist groups via Orkut and AdSense while sharing information with CIA and screwing AdWords advertisers by favoring their own products over theirs. Newspapers are complaining that Google is profiting from the information they provide and some people are getting seriously upset when their Google ranking drops after an update. Obviously, Google and its do no evil mantra is on the way out. But how hated is Google compared to the all time favorite Microsoft?
I did a bit of research in order to answer this question. Using Google’s best technology, i.e., the search engine, I searched for the phrases “I hate Google” and “I hate Microsoft.” The former returns 22,500 results and the latter 80,800. Clearly, there is four times the number of people hating Microsoft compared to Google. In the meantime, Apple which is another all time favorite technology company with a religious following comes somewhere in the middle with 42,700 results returned for the query “I hate Apple.”
Google has a long way to go before surpassing Apple and Microsoft but it is doing fairly well considering that it is a much younger company. On the other hand, Google is way ahead on the number of people who are crazy about it. When searching for the phrase “I love Google,” I get 164,000 which blow the same queries for Microsoft and Apple out of the water with 31,600 and 107,000 results respectively.
I guess people really love Google since they can get a paycheck from it but what do I know?
