Digg’s CEO Jay Adelson interviewed by Michele Steele

If you have 4 minutes to spare, watch Forbes.com’s Michele Steele interview Digg’s CEO Jay Adelson. During the interview, we find out – other than the fact that Michele has a rather annoying voice – that Digg has no decent business model and that Jay has probably never read Surowiecki’s “The Wisdom of the crowds.”

I have to admit that I don’t find Digg all that exciting. I gave it a fair chance for a few weeks. I went there to find good stories to read and be part of a community that I thought could be interesting. It turns out that most of the stories that make the front page are not the most interesting but rather those stories that few power users and their friends promote for fun and profit. The comments are also extremely immature and the voting system chaotic. In fact, many times when someone says something insightful it gets buried by the dumb masses.

On another note, Jay tells us during the interview that there are acquisition rumors but nothing specific. They are probably waiting for a YouTube size offer because it would really make sense considering Digg’s 20 million unique users a month! If anyone decides to pay up for Digg, then they will be very happy to know that Jay’s secret plan for future growth is community. I wonder if that would be the same community that Digg has been alienating the last few months with their banning strategy.

Watch the interview and draw your own conclusions.
